Mellody Hobson is president of Ariel Investments LLC which is headquartered in Chicago, IL. Hobson is responsible for companywide management and strategic planning as well chairman of the board of trustees for Ariel Investment Trust. She is also the chairman of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. Hobson is a nationally recognized voice on financial literacy and investor education, a regular contributor to CBS News, provides money tips on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” writes a column for Black Enterprise and is a spokesperson for two studies examining investing patterns of minorities. She is a director of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. and Starbucks Corp. Hobson is chairman of the nonprofit After School Matters and a board member of the Chicago Public Education Fund, George Lucas Education Foundation and Sundance Institute. She is also on the executive committee of the Investment Company Institute’s board of governors. In 2015, she was on Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people. Hobson has a B.A. from Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
