Al B. Reid
Al B Reid is the retired Vice President of Abbott’s Corporate Development Organization. In this role, he served as a strategic and operational partner for Abbott global business enterprises and management teams. Al B Reid’s other Abbott experiences include leading teams of management consultants and business development professionals to pursue acquisitions including over $25 billion in transaction value, executing the business separations of AbbVie (pharma) and Hospira (hospital products) and divesting businesses (CPG, vascular, orthopedics) as well as formulating new business opportunities in China (nutrition), India/Russia (pharma), and Africa (diagnostics/pharma/med devices). Each of these strategic efforts resulted in the strengthening of the company global brand, reputation, and market positions.
Before joining Abbott, Al B Reid was a Vice President at Baxter’s Healthcare Medication Delivery and Products business unit where he successfully expanded the enterprise medical infusion pump and device operations in China and Southeast Asia. In addition, while at Baxter, Al B. Reid also served as a Corporate Development professional for the parent company where he led the business spin-offs of the Caremark Pharmacy Services, Clintec Nutrition and Edwards Vascular businesses. While at the Baxter World Trade Group, Al B Reid facilitated strategic partnerships in Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East for the emerging market entity. Al B Reid also held roles of increasing responsibilities in business planning, finance, M&A, treasury and strategy at Dun & Bradstreet, Paramount Communications, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Al B. Reid currently serves as a Trustee at Clark Atlanta University, Governor of the Chicago Golf District Association and CDGA Foundation, Director of the Advocates Pro Golf Association Tour, the History Makers, and the Leverage Network. He also serves on the presidential advisory council of the Chicago Youth Centers, and the UNC Chapel Hill Center for Health. Al B Reid board experiences have all allowed him to apply best practices for corporate governance, performance and risk management, and strategic planning while maintaining independence and high level of ethics and integrity. Al B. Reid is a long-time member of the Executive Leadership Council (ELC) and the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG). Al B. Reid is also the founding partner of Calypso Investment Partners and Aslan Capital operating–investment firms focused on Life Sciences and growth opportunities.
Al B. Reid is frequent invited panelist on topics related to executing corporate growth programs and to building diverse and inclusive organizations. Al B Reid is an active civic member and supports a variety of causes from health and wellness programs, STEM education, chronic disease prevention, early childhood education, youth sports, homeless shelters, and food insecurity.
Al B. Reid received his BA degree in Communication from Clark Atlanta University and MS degree in Management from Carnegie Mellon University. Al B. Reid and his wife, Cheri live in Northbrook, Illinois and have two adult children (Ariel and Christopher).
