Monica Sanders is a Director, Shared Value within the Global Marketing and External Affairs at Ab-bott, where she leads the company’s efforts to develop scalable, integrated solutions to improve healthcare access and affordability globally. She moved to the Public Affairs and Corporate Market-ing group in 2019 where leverages her previous commercial experience to collaborate with govern-mental and non-governmental partners to implement and managed shared value programs. In 2020, Monica’s work on decentralized healthcare with the Ministry of Health Rwanda earned recognition with 24th place ranking on Fortune’s Change the World list and an Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE) by the US Department of State.
Monica joined Abbott 2014 as a Senior Manager, Corporate Development and was quickly promoted through the ranks to Director. In this capacity, she worked beside senior leaders to structure and implement cross-functional programs designed to expand markets, reduce costs and build capabili-ties. Monica possesses more than 25 years of progressive management experience in roles empha-sizing strategic planning, business development and creative problem-solving.
Prior to joining Abbott, Monica served as marketing director and/or management consultant sup-porting strategic initiatives for Fortune 500 companies where she drove the identification and cap-ture of $1 billion in new economic value for companies in the consumer package goods, industrial supply distribution and medical device/healthcare industries.
Monica holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology (AB) from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Michigan Stephen Ross School of Business, Ann Arbor, MI, USA.
In her spare time, Monica also serves on the Associates Board at Rush Medical Center and the American Diabetes Associates Illinois Community Leadership Board in Chicago. She is also actively engaged in driving forward Abbott’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives by designing and imple-menting leadership development and unconscious bias webinars. She enjoys serving as a mentor to young people both personally and professionally in the greater Chicago area.
