As we celebrate Black History Month, The Leverage Network (TLN) proudly recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Black healthcare leaders, practitioners, and trailblazers who have shaped and continue to transform the healthcare industry. Their groundbreaking work has not only advanced medicine but has also been instrumental in addressing health disparities and fostering more equitable care for all communities.

The Enduring Legacy of Black Healthcare Pioneers
From Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first Black woman to earn a medical degree in the U.S., to Dr. Charles Drew, whose research revolutionized blood transfusions, Black professionals have long been at the forefront of medical innovation, policy, and patient advocacy.
In recent history, leaders like Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, who played a key role in developing the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, and Dr. Aletha Maybank, who leads health equity efforts at the American Medical Association, remind us of the enduring brilliance, resilience, and impact of Black professionals in healthcare.

Building on the Foundation of Progress
Despite these contributions, Black professionals remain underrepresented in executive leadership and boardrooms across healthcare organizations. TLN is committed to changing this narrative by preparing and positioning Black leaders for C-suite roles and corporate board seats—because representation matters in shaping policies, funding, and access to care.

Honoring the Past, Elevating the Future
As we reflect on the past, we must also look forward. The work of Black healthcare professionals is far from over, and the next generation needs mentors, sponsors, and opportunities to continue this legacy. TLN is proud to lead this charge through:

  1. The Healthcare Board Initiative – Equipping leaders to serve on corporate and healthcare boards.
  2. Beyond Boundaries – Preparing senior executives for top leadership roles.
  3. Mid-Career Odyssey – Developing the next wave of executive talent.
  4. Executive Women of Color Summit (EWOC) – A space for restoration, networking, and leadership growth.
